Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Michael Wang is a drummer and producer who creates music with authenticity and is eager to disrupt expectations. Michael studied music at Manhattan School of Music with Kendrick Scott and John Riley. He later taught drums at the World Heart Beat Music Academy in London, and has enjoyed helping students discover how much they love music.
Michael has been a member of a variety of projects of different musical styles including straight-ahead jazz, funk, alternative rock, Brazilian music, hip-hop, electronic music, free jazz, and fusion. Electronic music, jazz, and hip-hop are among Michael’s strongest influences, and he builds on the already abundant cross-pollination of these musical styles.
By blurring the lines between live, recorded, and produced sounds, Michael hopes to discover new ways of presenting music. His project TRIIS features original music which blends recorded and synthesized sounds. Michael also produces tracks and projects for other artists, using the name TRIIS.
